Burn, baby!

Me and BBQ s … always good for a laugh, or two. Maybe three. However, I didn’t want to invest in another throw away, and the table grill … well, doesn’t make for nice pictures. It had to be a gas BBQ, I am at a total loss when it comes to coal BBQ. There are vivid memories of the grill parked on the lawn because we had to re-fire, eating potatoes as a starter, scourging the dry lawn with the coal starter, and a lasting one of a black ring on the wooden deck from the very same. I guess not the memories anyone would like to make with a BBQ.

So, gas BBQ I finally decided on. On the smaller side, with two burners, and a nice look. My thoughts were driven by a very logic decision – since I wouldn’t use it that much at least it had to look good hot and cold. So I had decided on the Morsø Forno Gas Medio. I was really happy with my choice until I turned it on the very first time to prep the grill grid. Unfortunately it had a faulty thermometer and left me utterly disappointed. I returned it and decided on the Burnhard Wayne: same size, excellent reviews, half the price. The look: I really like it, and think it actually fits my style even better. The Forno Gas is a bit too much on the stylish side, almost like being too overdressed in my garden -and it is always all about the garden, isn’t it?

And the experience so far: excellent! I love that within 15 min of turning it on, the heat is up at 300°C! Still need to practice on the temperature settings, but the first medium steak didn’t turn out too shabby. I decided to keep it on the patio and try some winter BBQ as well. Speaking of patio – the initial thought of looking good when not in use, hasn’t turned out that well: I hadn’t thought of the cover one throws on to protect it from the elements.
