After a year of hard work on the interior of the farmhouse I had the exterior redone in 2012 and then found myself longing to beautify the surroundings as well. I had not planned on an elaborate garden; actually, I did not have a plan at all. I kind of stumbled into it, or more so even been a bit pushed into it by my aunt who had been gardening for years and who had a real passion for roses. I had found myself with a bit of spare time on hand; little did I know … gardening can become a dreadful obsession.
I pretty much started with an empty canvas; and empty it was indeed.

Only adding some clean area around the house … and then adding a bit here and a bit there. Five years later I had already a nice collection of roses; and nowadays I am still adding, changing, redoing. Looking back the biggest mistake was to start without a general plan, I kept making it up going along. But then, there’s the saying “a garden will never be finished” … so I guess plans are overrated. I will keep digging anyway …
