The German term >steinreich< is the equivalent to the English filthy rich, the exact translation >stone rich<. Well, my garden is indeed Stein-reich. Digging around for a decade now I have been excavating plenty of stone treasures. Some of them being treasures indeed – shell fossils imprinted on the limestone, witnesses of the ocean covering this area 13 millions years ago.

I have been collecting and arranging the rocks, forming little habitats for the sun lovers of the critters around here, hoping to convince some lizards to move in. Also my family knows by now that I have started to collect the stones. And now and then I get some gifts which have surfaced on the farmers’ fields around.
So when I refer to the lot as my island, my rock, my beachfront property, I am not only expressing my gratitude to own this little piece of land but also including the history of it.
