This winter, with springlike temperatures since right before Christmas, has not been not much of one so far, and I already fear March and April will therefor not be springlike at all. It will take some time to really wrap my head around the climate change, more so careful watching of my garden responding to the climate change throughout the seasons, and as a result adapting my gardening chores.
This winter I have already made use of the warm weather and started the winter pruning. Gooseberries, blackberries and grapes are pruned, and now I have started cutting back most of the perenials – due to the size of my garden I have to start early – I have to beat the spring bulbs to it. And the first snowdrops are already popping up! So time to get some of the thicker layers of leaves off the borders, even if that means more exposure to cold temperatures.

And the ones that never disappoint – Helleborus niger and helleborus orientalis. It makes for a very pretty sight this time of year and I strongly recommend it for any garden, no matter the size. As a matter of fact, I think I need to plant some more!
